Joe Burrow and the Robbery That Changed His Plans

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow revealed a significant modification to his purchase plans after the robbery at his home last December. Burrow, in the new season of the Netflix series “Quarterback” released on Tuesday, canceled the purchase of a functional replica of the Batmobile. The decision came after the raid on his home in Cincinnati, which occurred while the Bengals were playing away against the Dallas Cowboys. The acquisition of the fantasy vehicle by Burrow had initially been revealed during the past season in “Hard Knocks”, which documented the seasons of the four AFC North teams. However, in “Quarterback”, Burrow confirmed that the theft altered his plans.

I didn’t end up buying the Batmobile because at that moment I had other things I wanted to deal with.

Both the Netflix series and HBO’s “Hard Knocks” covered Burrow’s initial excitement about the purchase, which has a retail price of $3 million. However, once the robbery occurred, Burrow’s tone changed. In the program, Burrow spoke extensively about the robbery that led to multiple arrests and a federal grand jury indictment that alleged the break-in at Burrow’s house was carried out by members of a large criminal network.

I feel very uncomfortable. My life is very public. That comes with the job, but there are certain parts of your life that are yours. Your home is one of them.

A scene from “Quarterback” showed Burrow conversing with former Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo about what happened. Along with the discomfort that a greater media presence around his house generated and other personal information, such as the relationship between Burrow and social media influencer Olivia Ponton, Burrow expressed long-term concerns about the situation.

We’ll see if I end up moving or not. Now everyone knows where I live. But it hasn’t been very fun dealing with that.

Legal records show that Burrow’s house has not changed ownership since it was purchased for $7.5 million in July 2023, shortly before Burrow signed a $275 million contract extension with the Bengals.
