Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen announced on Friday that his 7-year-old son is on the verge of a full recovery after a seven-month battle with leukemia.
Hines-Allen shared the news via social media, along with the announcement that her foundation, Four One For All, will carry out a season-long campaign called Four One For Hope. This initiative will seek to support four non-profit organizations focused on cancer throughout the 2025 season.
Hines-Allen did not travel to Indianapolis to play in the Jaguars’ last game of the 2024 season in January, after Wesley was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, a type of blood cancer that can be life-threatening and cause severe bleeding, anemia, and infections. According to the Cleveland Clinic, this rare cancer affects about 30,000 people in the United States each year, and most of those affected are in their 30s when it manifests. The treatments developed in the 1980s transformed the disease, which was once considered fatal, into a curable one, according to the Cleveland Clinic.“We recently received the good news that Wesley is on his way to a full recovery,” Hines-Allen stated. “We are grateful to the dedicated team of doctors, nurses, and caregivers who contributed to our son’s well-being and advised us during this time. Our goal is to ensure that families going through something similar feel the same level of love and support as we did.”

According to the statement, Wesley’s battle inspired the Hines-Allens to dedicate the 2025 season to helping other Jacksonville families battling childhood cancer. Each month, Four One For All will contribute to a different organization: Nemours Children’s Health (September), American Cancer Society (October), Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville (November), and National Pediatric Cancer Foundation (December).“Wesley is doing great,” said Kaitlyn Hines-Allen, wife of Josh Hines-Allen, in a video that the family posted on Hines-Allen’s X account. “He’s swimming every day. He’s running. He’s playing sports.”
