Hunter Signs with Jaguars: Million-Dollar Contract and Dual-Role Plan

Receiver and defensive back Travis Hunter has signed his four-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team announced on Sunday night.

The agreement, which guarantees $46.65 million, includes a signing bonus of $30.57 million paid in advance.

Hunter’s agents, Adie von Gontard and Ray Haija of Young Money APAA Sports, reported that Hunter is the first non-quarterback player to receive his signing bonus in full upfront, without having been selected in the first overall draft position.

Hunter was the last of the top 10 draft picks to sign his contract. Only two first-round picks remained unsigned: Cincinnati defensive end Shemar Stewart (17th overall) and Denver cornerback Jahdae Barron (20th overall).

The Jaguars made a trade with the Cleveland Browns, giving up four draft picks (numbers 5, 36 and 126, plus a first-round pick in 2026) to move up three spots and select Hunter with the second overall pick.

The Jaguars intend to use Hunter on both sides of the field, just as he did when winning the Heisman Trophy in 2025 with Colorado, since his rookie season. Hunter dedicated most of the team’s organized training sessions (OTAs) and mandatory minicamp to working on offense, although he also participated in at least one full practice on defense.

Hunter practiced both offense and defense on the last day of the three-day minicamp. Head coach Liam Coen confirmed that this is the plan for Hunter during training camp.
