Travis Hunter Questionable for Jaguars Preseason Game

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter is dealing with an upper-body injury, according to head coach Liam Coen. His participation in Sunday’s preseason game against New Orleans is uncertain. Hunter did not participate in Friday’s practice as a precaution, but was present throughout the session and remained attentive, alongside receivers coach Edgar Bennett.

“That’s what they’re expected to do when they’re injured. We want to make sure they’re focused, understanding the plays and able to observe and mentally execute,” Coen explained.

Hunter, selected at number 2, has been training on both sides of the ball and has participated in 364 plays in previous practices, including 17 on offense and 16 on defense in a scrimmage on Thursday. In addition to Hunter, other key players could miss the match against the Saints. The coaching staff was considering this possibility due to the multiple injuries that arose during the week. Right tackle Anton Harrison (lower body), guard/tackle Chuma Edoga (lower body), and cornerback Tyson Campbell (upper body) were working separately on Friday. Defensive tackles Arik Armstead (back) and Maason Smith (lower body), who was activated from the PUP list on Thursday, participated in individual work but not team work. “I don’t want to say ‘You’re going to play. You’re not going to play,'” Coen commented. “We need to make sure that if we put Trevor Lawrence in, we’re protected and have the right players up front. Same with the running backs. Making sure we’re not putting people in vulnerable situations because of injuries.”
