Jaxson Dart, the New Starting Quarterback for the Giants

New York Giants coach Brian Daboll confirmed this Wednesday that Jaxson Dart will be the team’s starting quarterback, starting this week against the Los Angeles Chargers and for the rest of the season.

Daboll assured that, although he spoke with the Giants’ management, the decision to give Dart the starting position was exclusively his.

The coach highlighted the professionalism of Russell Wilson, who accepted his new role after losing the starting position to the young Dart, selected by the Giants in the first round of the 2025 draft.

Wilson will now be the team’s backup this week and is expected to hold that position for the rest of the season. Jameis Winston, also under contract, is third on the quarterback depth chart.

Wilson had a complicated performance in Sunday night’s loss against the Kansas City Chiefs, where he threw for 160 yards and suffered two interceptions. In addition, there was a possession in the red zone that generated frustration, culminating in an incomplete pass on fourth down. The fans, visibly disappointed, booed the veteran quarterback after the second interception.

The switch to Dart could revitalize a disillusioned fanbase. Fans celebrated the rookie’s entry onto the field during the second quarter of Sunday’s game, contrasting with the boos directed at Wilson after his second interception in the same quarter, in what was the first home game of the season.
