Daboll Understands the Frustration: The Giants Suffer Another Home Defeat

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Coach Brian Daboll understood the reaction of the public during the New York Giants’ home opener on Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs. He acknowledged that he himself would have reacted the same way to the 22-9 defeat and the disappointing offensive performance.

“I would be booing too, to be honest, for not being good enough, for not scoring, for not finishing. I get it. That’s the nature of this. We have to get better.”

After a 3-14 season, an improvement was expected from the Giants (0-3). The arrival of veteran Russell Wilson aimed to avoid this situation and calm a restless fanbase. The Giants amassed 281 yards in a performance that drew boos before halftime. Chants for Jaxson Dart, the young quarterback, were even heard. Dart participated in three plays instead of Wilson, in a special scheme designed for the end zone or short yardage situations. When Wilson returned to the field, some boos were heard. Wilson, for his part, commented on the need to remain calm and trust in their abilities, recalling his career and what the team can achieve offensively. He acknowledged that the opponent played better and that the match was close, but that the key plays were not realized. Wilson finished with 18 of 32 completed passes for 160 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. A very different performance from the previous week, where he threw for 450 yards and three touchdowns. The chants in favor of Dart arose after Wilson’s second interception, with the score tied at 6-6 and less than a minute left in the first half. Dart expressed his desire to support Wilson, listening to his perspectives and learning from the coaches. He acknowledged that the situation is new to him and that he is trying to take a different perspective, aware of the difficulty when the offense is not performing at its best. Daboll avoided confirming whether Wilson will be the starter next week against the Los Angeles Chargers. The uncertainty at the quarterback position has intensified with the team’s winless start. Outside linebacker Brian Burns understood the fans’ reaction, highlighting that emotions can run high in sports. Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II also acknowledged the frustration, but emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and executing key plays to change the situation.
