Kenny Pickett, no return date for the Browns

Cleveland Browns quarterback Kenny Pickett doesn’t have a set return date after suffering a hamstring injury at the end of Saturday’s practice, coach Kevin Stefanski reported on Monday. Meanwhile, Joe Flacco will take the majority of the reps with the first team, as the battle for the quarterback position enters its second week of training.

I don’t have a deadline. With something like this, we’ll see how it goes. But his mindset, my mindset, we’ll just go day by day.

Stefanski indicated that he learned of Pickett’s injury on Saturday, when he left the training field. A subsequent MRI confirmed the severity of the injury. Pickett is expected to be reevaluated later this week. Before Pickett’s injury, Stefanski had mentioned that he and his coaching staff would discuss the quarterback rotation for the second week of training. All quarterbacks will receive an increase in practice repetitions following Pickett’s injury, including rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. However, the team each rookie would work with would depend on the practice period.

I think it really depends on the period, what we’re trying to accomplish in that period and just moving these guys around, giving them some more exposure.

Sanders, selected in the fifth round, is the only quarterback who did not receive repetitions with the first team during the first week of training.
