Fields Ignores Jets Owner Criticism: “Doesn’t Affect Me” | NFL

In the midst of a complicated season for the New York Jets, quarterback Justin Fields has responded to the criticism from team owner Woody Johnson with calm and determination.

Fields Stands Firm Against Criticism

Fields, who is currently facing difficulties on the field and could lose his position to Tyrod Taylor, has downplayed the need for a conversation with Johnson to clarify the situation.

I don’t think talking to him is going to do any good. It won’t make me play better. It won’t give me more confidence on the field, so I don’t think there’s necessarily a reason to talk about it, and I doubt he’ll come talk to me.

The Jets’ quarterback, who has been struggling on the field and could be replaced by Tyrod Taylor, reacted to Johnson’s comments, who blamed Fields for the team’s 0-7 season start. Fields revealed that he was unaware of Johnson’s comments until reporters informed him, although the topic was addressed by Aaron Glenn during the team’s morning meeting. The relationship between Fields and Johnson is limited, with brief encounters before games. Fields stated that the owner’s criticisms do not affect him, and that he understands the responsibility that comes with his position.

Of course, everyone knows that I need to play better and that we need to play better as a team. And, of course, no matter how the offense works as a unit, I’ll be blamed. And I get it, that’s what comes with the job. You can’t let anything affect your mind.

Fields, under contract until 2026, avoided answering questions about a possible transfer request, focusing on the team’s next match. Johnson sparked controversy by referring to Fields’ poor performance, mentioning his rating and the need to improve completed passes. Coach Aaron Glenn and Johnson are “on the same page” regarding the personnel. Glenn has not named the starter for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, seeking a competitive advantage.
