Fans clamor for Micah Parsons: Renewal on the way for the Cowboys?

OXNARD, California – Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones addressed the fans before Saturday’s practice, at which point shouts for Micah Parsons’ contract renewal were heard. Cowboys fans expressed their desire for the management to secure the contract extension for Micah Parsons. I heard the screams, but not as much as when they asked to pay Lamb last year. Jones recalled the negotiations with CeeDee Lamb from last year, highlighting that the clamor of the fans was more intense at that time. The Cowboys finally signed Lamb to a $136 million contract at the end of August, after returning from their training camp in Oxnard, California. When Jones was asked about the conversations with Parsons after the organization signed tight end Jake Ferguson to a four-year extension worth up to $52 million, Jones refrained from commenting. Executive Vice President Stephen Jones indicated that discussions about Parsons would be kept internal. He also listened to the fans on Saturday.

Nothing changes. We want to pay Micah too. He also has to want to get paid.

Negotiations with Ferguson intensified before the start of training camp, reaching an agreement that includes $30 million guaranteed and a $12 million signing bonus.

I remember sitting down and thinking, ‘I don’t want to be anywhere else.’ Playing here is incredible. From the beginning, it’s been a privilege to wear this star.

Jake Ferguson
Ferguson, selected in the fourth round of the 2022 draft, has 149 receptions for 1,429 yards and seven touchdowns in 47 games. His best season was in 2023, with 71 receptions for 761 yards and five touchdowns. He was added as a replacement to the Pro Bowl. Ferguson and Jason Witten are the only tight ends in team history to record two seasons with more than 50 receptions in their first three seasons. Last season, Ferguson had 59 receptions for 494 yards, but did not score any touchdowns. He suffered a medial collateral ligament sprain in the season-opening victory against the Cleveland Browns, which limited his participation during the first half of the season. In the second half of the season, he missed two games due to a concussion.

We have certainly appreciated what you have been in your career with us, not only as the player we want on the field, but also as a competitive leader. What you do, really empowers it for everyone. And that is the consensus of all your teammates and coaches. So we are glad to have you. You have a home here for your career.

The Cowboys have other players they would like to extend the contract of, such as left guard Tyler Smith, who is under contract until 2026, cornerback DaRon Bland, and potentially wide receiver George Pickens. Pro Bowl kicker Brandon Aubrey is scheduled to be a restricted free agent after the season.

Could new group agreements come for the Cowboys?

They can. We still have a lot of things in the works. You really don’t like to talk about them until they’re done. I would have told you that this [Ferguson] deal could have been done before camp started. But you have to dot all the i’s and cross all the t’s. Everyone has to feel comfortable, and from there, you move forward.
