Dolphins Secure Minkah Fitzpatrick with New Contract

The Miami Dolphins have reached an agreement to restructure safety Minkah Fitzpatrick’s contract, according to sources close to the team. This new agreement includes a signing bonus of $16.435 million. In addition to securing Fitzpatrick, this agreement benefits the Dolphins by saving $11 million in the salary cap for the current season. The move comes after the Dolphins acquired Fitzpatrick last month. The player participated in the team’s preseason practices and recently hired Drew Rosenhaus as an agent to negotiate a new contract. Fitzpatrick, 28, signed a four-year, $73.6 million extension with the Steelers in 2022, becoming the highest-paid safety in the league at the time. The player hopes to sign an extension with Miami in the near future.

“We are comfortable with this commitment to Minkah while we continue to work with the Dolphins on a multi-year extension,” Rosenhaus stated.

The Dolphins selected Fitzpatrick in 2018, but he was traded to the Steelers a year later due to a disagreement with then-coach Brian Flores. During his six seasons in Pittsburgh, Fitzpatrick was selected for five Pro Bowls and three All-Pro teams. Fitzpatrick joins a Dolphins secondary that has undergone significant changes, replacing four of its five starters from the previous season. He has already made a good impression, recording the team’s first interception in training camp. Coach Mike McDaniel expressed his enthusiasm for Fitzpatrick’s performance, highlighting his energy and leadership on the field.
