Dart: Fearless after brutal hit. “We don’t play soccer”

In Monday night’s game, Jaxson Dart, the New York Giants’ quarterback, took a hard hit near the sideline during the 33-15 loss against the New England Patriots. Despite the possibility of going out of bounds and avoiding contact, Dart stated that he wouldn’t change anything about the way he plays. Dart, who had been out of action in two previous games due to a concussion, and who was evaluated for another in four of the previous eight games, did not appear concerned about the incident.

No, I don’t understand the question, but this is football. I’m going to get hit, whether in the pocket or outside of it. I feel like I’ve played like this my whole life. It shouldn’t surprise anyone who has followed my career.

The player explained that he was running outside the protection zone on a second-down-and-13-yard play when Christian Elliss tackled him. The hit was legal and the quarterback remained in bounds. The interim coach, Mike Kafka, had no issues with his quarterback’s play, despite the hard hit.

Obviously, I don’t want him to take unnecessary hits, but he was trying to get off the field.

Theo Johnson, the tight end, defended his quarterback and received a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness. The offensive line also came out in defense of Dart.

We’re not here to be walked all over. It’s your quarterback. Especially if you think it’s late, cheap, or dirty, you let them know that’s not acceptable. If they do things like that, we’ll respond accordingly.

Dart assured that he did not change his style of play after the concussion, and that playing with more caution was not something he considered. The rookie remained true to his style. The first-round quarterback completed 17 of 24 passes for 139 yards, with one touchdown and no interceptions. He ran four times for 20 yards and was not satisfied with his performance.

It wasn’t good enough because we lost.

This was the Giants’ seventh consecutive loss and their thirteenth consecutive loss as visitors since last season. Dart insisted that he played aggressively as he always does. The Giants (2-11) kept him in the game even when they were down by three touchdowns with just over two minutes remaining.

Like I said, I played like this my whole life. Watch my high school videos, watch my college videos, it’s not a surprise to anyone. This is how I’ve played. I feel like if you just watch the game, I slid. I avoided a lot of hits, but you’re going to get hit. It’s football.

The Giants took a different approach in Monday night’s game, compared to the game in which Dart was injured last month, where they used him in six designed runs. This time, there were no designed runs. Some of his teammates would prefer that he avoid this type of hits.

I told him before Monday ‘be smart, protect yourself’. Obviously, he’s not going to listen because he’s very competitive and loves contact. That’s just him. We’ll have to keep talking to him. Maybe he’ll listen to us someday.

Fortunately for Dart and the Giants, the rookie quarterback said he felt fine after Monday night’s game. He recovered from Elliss’s hard hit and immediately returned to the huddle. The hit he suffered in Chicago and this one in New England won’t change his way of thinking.

They took me out of the game against Chicago on a fluke play. You observe the hit, I lose control of the ball and I don’t prepare because I’m trying to catch the ball again. It’s not because of the hit. It’s because I lost the ball. So, like any other league, you take new steps, there are bigger and faster players. My body feels good. I’m going to play aggressively. I feel that if I become a complete pocket passer, that’s not the way I want to play the game. I feel like I have an advantage using my legs. So yes.
