Dak Prescott excited: Cowboys pair Pickens with Lamb.

FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has established a connection with newly acquired wide receiver George Pickens and will be able to start working on the field next week, when organized team activities begin.

Prescott is excited about Pickens’ arrival, who accumulated 174 receptions for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns in three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

When you watch the tape, you see a guy who can catch the ball. You put the ball anywhere in his vicinity, very strong hands. More than a 50/50 receiver. He thinks it’s his ball when it’s in the air. I’m excited for him. I know we need some help at that position.

The Cowboys’ search for a wide receiver to complement CeeDee Lamb led them to consider Tetairoa McMillan in the NFL draft, but he was selected before Dallas could pick him. After negotiations with several teams, they reached an agreement with the Steelers, sending a 2026 third-round pick to Pittsburgh and swapping fifth and sixth-round picks in 2027.

I know CeeDee needs some help, and I think when you have a guy like that, I heard George say it, it’s hard to double-team two players. Then when you have other players, whether it’s tight end Jake Ferguson, Jalen Tolbert, Jonathan Mingo, guys who have had reps and know how to get open in the league, I think we’re putting together a good group of weapons.

Some in the organization compare Pickens to former Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant, the franchise’s all-time leader in touchdown receptions. Executive Vice President Stephen Jones commented on this comparison.

He’s a supreme competitor, and we had one in Dez Bryant that was the same way. Just couldn’t get enough. And when the lights came on and his cleats hit the grass, he was a different guy. And it seems like George is going to be that way.

Jones added that the Cowboys thoroughly investigated Pickens and found that “he is very well-liked by his teammates”.

They want him on their team. And we feel the same way about Dez. And we feel that he’s going to bring something to our organization that we need in terms of an edge and bringing that competitive energy to the field, day in and day out, week in and week out.
