After the first practice of the Dallas Cowboys training camp, Dak Prescott heads to the fence behind one of the end zones. There, his fiancée, Sarah Jane Ramos, and his daughters, MJ and Aurora, await him. For 15 minutes, Prescott shares time with his family, enjoying moments that take him away from the role of quarterback of “America’s Team”. In 2016, his rookie year, Prescott watched Jason Witten share time with his children. Now, with perspective, the Cowboys’ most veteran quarterback, who will turn 32 on Tuesday, finds a vital balance.

I am achieving that true balance. I think it’s healthy. Now, when I leave this building, my mind can disconnect, something that didn’t happen before.

With a decade in the league, Prescott has a clear goal: to win a Super Bowl. Despite his 2-5 postseason record and the absence of the Cowboys in an NFC final or Super Bowl victory since 1995, his motivation is unwavering. Recognized as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2022, three-time Pro Bowler and runner-up in the MVP voting in 2023, Prescott holds team records for touchdown passes (37) and could become the all-time leader in yards and touchdowns.

What I’ve really achieved has no weight for me. That is the motivation, the truth in your stomach. That’s what you want inside.

Prescott is recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him out of nine games in 2024 and will have some limitations in his training.

Now that he’s in the 30 club, we’re going to be smart with some of the things we do with him. Although Dak won’t like it so much, he’s very aware that we’re going to be smart with what he does.

Brian Schottenheimer, coach
In training, Prescott has adopted a “cheerleader” role, fostering enthusiasm among his teammates. In addition, he has subtly adjusted his game under center, with new cadences. Schottenheimer compares Prescott’s attitude to that of Andrew Luck, highlighting his willingness to learn and improve. Prescott’s ambition is focused on winning the Super Bowl. He is not concerned about not being on the list of the top 10 quarterbacks in a survey of league executives, coaches, and scouts.

Ten years and ready to play another 10, but I want to win above all now. And that’s the urgency I carry with me, with the love and passion for this game. I don’t just want to win for myself, but also for this organization. It’s been a while.
