Commanders’ Offensive in Search of Synchronization
The Washington Commanders’ offense has faced challenges during the summer, according to offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. The absence of key players, including wide receiver Terry McLaurin, has impacted the team’s performance. With the season starting in three weeks, the need for teamwork is crucial. Kingsbury has pointed out the lack of significant contact with McLaurin, who has been working with coaches and has not yet participated in on-field practices. McLaurin, seeking a contract extension, is one of four key offensive players who have been absent during the summer. This has affected the team’s progress compared to the previous season.Washington’s offense, which ranked fifth in points and seventh in yards last season, features the current Offensive Rookie of the Year, quarterback Jayden Daniels. The team has also made significant moves, including the acquisition of wide receiver Deebo Samuel and left tackle Laremy Tunsil, in addition to selecting Josh Conerly Jr. in the first round of the draft. However, these changes have not translated into a synchronized offensive during the summer. McLaurin missed the first four days of training and was placed on the list of players who cannot participate due to their physical condition. Sam Cosmi is recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, while Brandon Coleman has been off the field since August 2. Additionally, wide receiver Noah Brown has missed practice time due to a knee injury suffered in the spring.Until we get some of these pieces back, we won’t know exactly what we are. That’s something we need to achieve in the next three weeks.

The key relationship focuses on Daniels and McLaurin, who achieved the most touchdowns of his career last season. Daniels threw 25 touchdowns in total, and McLaurin was second in the NFL in touchdown receptions overall and in the red zone. Kingsbury emphasizes the importance of work on the field, valuing practice time as essential for the team’s development. Although McLaurin and Daniels have already built a strong connection, the coordinator seeks to strengthen the team’s chemistry in the coming weeks. Not having both projected open receivers and both interior pieces at guard won’t give you the opportunity to gel or build that relationship until everyone is on the field.
