Bucs Secure Teddy Bridgewater: QB Reinforcement After Successful Visit

1 Min Read

Experienced quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is in Tampa today and is expected to sign with the Buccaneers, according to sources.

Bridgewater, 32, last played for the Detroit Lions in December 2024, coming out of retirement to be Jared Goff’s backup. He did not participate in any regular season games, but completed a 3-yard pass in the playoff loss against the Washington Commanders.

For the Bucs, Bridgewater would reinforce the quarterback corps, considering Michael Pratt’s back injury.

Bridgewater has played for six NFL teams between 2014 and 2024, accumulating a 33-32 record with 15,120 passing yards and 75 touchdowns. He was selected for the Pro Bowl after an 11-5 season with the Minnesota Vikings. He retired after a decade in the league and coached his high school, Miami Northwestern, leading them to the state title of the Florida High School Athletic Association in 2024.

Last month, Bridgewater was suspended from his position as coach of Miami Northwestern for allegedly providing impermissible benefits to his players. In a social media post, he said that he himself reported the payment of Uber rides, meals, and recovery services for his players last season.
