Quinshon Judkins Avoids Charges After Domestic Incident

Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins will not face formal charges for an alleged domestic incident that occurred last month in South Florida, according to a spokesperson for the Broward State Attorney’s Office. The decision not to file charges was made after reviewing police reports, body camera videos, surveillance recordings, photographs, phone records, and the victim’s sworn statement, according to a prosecution memo obtained. Judkins was arrested on July 12 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on charges of domestic violence and assault. The arrest report indicates that the incident occurred five days prior, but was not reported until the day of the arrest. According to the report, Judkins, after showing frustration while reading text messages from his family, allegedly punched the woman with his fist in the chin/lip area while driving a vehicle leaving Fort Lauderdale International Airport. Subsequently, he also allegedly hit her on the left arm and thigh. The woman showed the officers photographs showing bruises from the alleged assault.

“This incident was not captured on any video recording. There are no independent witnesses to the incident. Although the victim had photos showing injuries, there were also videos in the same time period where no injuries were observed on the victim. Furthermore, the victim’s injuries represented in the photos could be explained by any version of the incident.”

Prosecution Memorandum
The prosecutor’s memo adds: “Finally, there was a late report of the incident. The delay is problematic since the victim was alone on numerous occasions without the accused, had the ability and resources to make the report without his knowledge, but chose not to. For the reasons stated above, there is no reasonable probability of conviction and this case is dismissed.” An NFL spokesperson stated that the league has been “following developments in the matter, which remains under review.” Judkins, the number 36 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, is the only unsigned member of this year’s draft class, as his legal situation was still ongoing. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said in late July that he was “cautiously optimistic” that Judkins would play for the team in 2025. General manager Andrew Berry had said that an overall framework for a deal was straightforward for Judkins, who, before his arrest, was one of several second-round picks seeking more guarantees in their rookie contracts.
