Browns’ Martin Emerson Jr. Suffers Achilles Injury, Will Miss 2025 Season

Cleveland Browns cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon and will be out for the 2025 season, according to coach Kevin Stefanski, announced on Wednesday. Emerson retired from Tuesday’s practice on a cart after suffering a non-contact left leg injury while covering wide receiver Diontae Johnson on a deep route. Emerson tried to plant his leg at the end of the play, but fell to the ground in pain. He immediately took off his helmet and threw it in frustration. He was unable to put weight on his leg as he was helped onto the cart. Disappointed. Obviously, injuries are the worst part of our sport, but he will recover. I know what he’s made of and I know he has our support. He has the support of his teammates. Selected in the third round (68th overall) of the 2022 draft by the Browns, Emerson was about to enter the final year of his rookie contract. He participated in 50 games with 33 starts, recording 202 tackles, four interceptions, and 34 passes defended. Greg Newsome II, who usually played nickel cornerback, will take Emerson’s place in the base defense alongside 2024 Pro Bowler Denzel Ward. Stefanski said the team will work to determine who will come in on nickel packages.
