Tom Brady in the Raiders’ Box: Rule Violation?

The presence of Tom Brady in the Las Vegas Raiders’ box during Monday night’s game raised questions. However, the NFL has confirmed that the former quarterback did not violate any rules. Brady, who is a minority owner of the Raiders and a Fox commentator, has certain restrictions imposed by the league. These limitations are due to his dual role as an owner and analyst.

“There are no policies that prohibit an owner from sitting on the coaches’ box or wearing a headset during a game,” said NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy.

During the game against the Los Angeles Chargers, cameras captured Brady in the Raiders’ box, using a headset. After a successful 23-year career as a player, Brady signed a 10-year, $375 million contract with Fox. However, his role as owner of the Raiders imposes certain limitations on him. The NFL has recently relaxed some of the restrictions on Brady, allowing him to participate in production meetings remotely. Raiders coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek have consulted Brady on roster decisions during the preseason. Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly has also stated that he speaks with Brady several times a week. Brady is scheduled to comment on the game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears in Week 3. The Raiders will face the Bears the following week.
