Alaric Jackson: Rams tackle, deals with blood clots

WAILUKU, Hawaii – Los Angeles Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson is dealing with blood clots in his lower leg, head coach Sean McVay reported on Tuesday. Jackson did not travel with the Rams to their mandatory minicamp in Hawaii. The player also faced a similar situation during the 2022 season, missing the last nine games due to blood clots. McVay did not provide a timeline for Jackson’s return, stating that “we are taking it day by day.” The Rams re-signed Jackson to a three-year, $57 million contract in February, before the left tackle became a free agent. McVay explained that Jackson told the team that he “felt some things in his lower leg,” which led to a scan that revealed the injury.

One prays that he can have a healthy and safe recovery. And we are really taking it day by day with him. There are many examples of people who have had situations like this, but they are all unique and independent in their own way. And that’s why we are gathering information.

Jackson started 14 games for the Rams last season, after missing the first two games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. He was also inactive for the end of the season after Los Angeles secured the NFC West. McVay indicated that the Rams wanted to be “proactive with a contingency plan” by signing tackle D.J. Humphries to a one-year contract on Friday.

There needs to be a lot of discussion and dialogue with [Jackson] and with the doctors about, most importantly, what is best for him as a human being. And then you talk about football after that. But what we are grateful for is that we were able to identify this based on his communication and put him on the right medication to make sure he is as healthy as possible.
