Matthew Stafford Absent from Rams Practice

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford did not participate in Monday’s practice, despite being expected to join individual drills as part of his return from a back disc injury.

Monday’s practice was slated as the next step in Stafford’s return, after he threw 68 passes on Saturday morning at the Rams’ training facility.

On Sunday, coach Sean McVay had expressed his expectation that Stafford would participate in individual exercises the next day, with the intention of “taking it day by day” from that moment.

However, Stafford was present at practice in street clothes, entering a “restoration and rejuvenation” chamber located next to the Rams’ training field.

McVay is scheduled to speak with the media after practice.

When asked on Saturday night if Stafford was still dealing with back pain or discomfort, McVay responded: “I don’t know. That’s something you’d have to talk to him about.”

Earlier in the week, McVay had emphasized that, although the Rams are being cautious with Stafford’s back, he would be available to play if it were the regular season.
