Aaron Jones to Injured Reserve

The Minnesota Vikings have placed running back Aaron Jones on the injured reserve list due to a hamstring injury. This was reported by sources close to the team.

Jones, now out of action for a minimum of four games, will leave the way clear for Jordan Mason to take the majority of carries in his absence.

The Vikings are also expected to re-sign Cam Akers, who has had two separate stints with the team.

Jones, 30, suffered the injury in Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, where he only managed 23 yards on five carries.

Before this, Jones had a similar performance in the Week 1 victory against the Chicago Bears, with five carries and 23 yards.

The Vikings acquired Mason via a trade with the 49ers in March, and then signed a two-year contract with the 26-year-old running back. In his first two games with Minnesota, Mason has accumulated 98 yards on 24 carries and three receptions for 15 yards.

The Vikings also have Zavier Scott in their running back group. Ty Chandler, another veteran running back, is on the injured reserve list due to a knee injury.

Akers, 26, has played in Minnesota in two periods (2023, ’24), arriving in both cases via trades during the season.

This week has been hectic for Minnesota, following injuries to J.J. McCarthy and Jones. The team also reached an agreement with quarterback Desmond Ridder on Tuesday.
