Trey Lyles leaves the NBA: Star signing for Real Madrid

NBA veteran Trey Lyles makes the jump to European basketball and joins Real Madrid.

The power forward, who played more than three seasons with the Sacramento Kings, signed a one-year contract with the Spanish team, which competes both nationally and in the Euroleague. The news was confirmed this Wednesday.

Lyles, 29, was selected 12th overall in the 2015 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz, one spot ahead of his former Kentucky teammate Devin Booker.

Lyles has played 10 seasons in the NBA, going through the Jazz, the Denver Nuggets, the San Antonio Spurs, the Detroit Pistons and the Kings. Last season, he averaged 6.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

The Canadian player participated in the Paris Olympics, where he helped his team reach the quarterfinals.

Real Madrid, a club with a rich history, is known for being one of the most successful teams in Europe.
