Nikola Topic Undergoes Medical Procedure; Out for the Thunder

Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Nikola Topic underwent a medical procedure on Monday and will be reevaluated in approximately four to six weeks, according to the team. This news represents a setback for the player and the team in the run-up to the regular season.

The Thunder will start the NBA regular season on October 21, facing the Houston Rockets. Topic’s absence raises questions about the team’s strategy in the early stages of the competition.

Topic, 20 years old, aspired to debut in the NBA with the champion team, after missing his entire rookie season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The Serbian point guard, 6 feet 6 inches tall, was OKC’s number 12 pick in the 2024 draft.

In Sunday’s preseason game against the Hornets, Topic played 31 minutes, scoring 10 points and dishing out seven assists, showing flashes of his potential. The news of his medical procedure has generated concern among fans.

Oklahoma City is already dealing with the loss of another young prospect, rookie center Thomas Sorber, who will miss the season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
