Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Receives Honors in Hamilton After NBA Success
The NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, was honored with the key to the city of Hamilton by Mayor Andrea Horwath at a public event held at Hamilton Stadium. Mayor Horwath also announced that a street will be named after the Oklahoma City Thunder star, following a spectacular season culminating in the NBA championship.Gilgeous-Alexander expressed his special connection with Hamilton.“I grew up traveling all over the world, to countless states, cities, and countries, and people always asked me where I was from,” Gilgeous-Alexander told an enthusiastic crowd. “I was proud to let everyone know I was from Hamilton.”

The player returned to the stadium on Thursday night, where he was honored before the second quarter of the CFL game between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the B.C. Lions.“Hamilton is unlike any other city in Ontario. Hamiltonians have a different sense of grit, determination, pride, and energy than the rest of the province, and honestly, I couldn’t stay away from that. I carry that with me every day and everywhere, so you can imagine the immense joy I felt when I learned that I would receive the key to the city I love and a street with my name”.
