NBA Strengthens Fan Code of Conduct

The NBA has reminded its teams of the importance of addressing inappropriate fan behavior during games this season. Through a memorandum sent to the 30 clubs, the league emphasized the need for a “consistent and vigilant application of the NBA Fan Code of Conduct… to deter and address fan misconduct at NBA games and events.” The behavior of fans has been a topic of debate in the sports world. Last season, notable incidents were recorded in the NBA, such as the expulsion of some fans in Dallas due to their reactions after the team’s decision to trade Luka Doncic. Likewise, the Minnesota Timberwolves expelled a fan for racist comments directed at Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors. In the memorandum, the NBA instructed teams to train arena staff to “identify behaviors that violate NBA rules and respond proactively.” The league, like others, presents a video detailing the code of conduct for fans, which is played in each arena before each game.

It is crucial that teams and arenas vigorously enforce the Code of Conduct and not tolerate any misconduct that affects our players, fans, or disrupts the game.
