P.J. Washington Secures His Future with the Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks forward P.J. Washington has agreed to a four-year, $90 million contract extension with the franchise. This agreement was confirmed by his agent, Kevin Bradbury of Lift Sports Management. With this extension, Washington, who had one year remaining on his contract for 14.1 million dollars, will not be able to be traded during the 2025-26 season. The new contract ensures Washington’s stay in Dallas until the 2029-30 season. The Mavericks have reached agreements with all key members of their roster eligible for new negotiations this offseason, including Kyrie Irving and Daniel Gafford, who also signed three-year contract extensions. Washington, who spent his first four and a half seasons in the NBA with the Charlotte Hornets, was selected 12th overall in the 2019 draft. He arrived at the Mavericks in February 2024, during the NBA trade deadline, and was a crucial element in the team’s successful run to the Finals that season. He started in all 22 playoff games of 2024. In the 2024-25 season, the 27-year-old player averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 blocks, 1.1 steals, and a field goal percentage of 45.3% and 38.1% in three-pointers. According to data, Washington was one of eight players who averaged at least one steal and one block last season, among those who played at least 50 games. In addition, he achieved 14 double-doubles, surpassing the 10 he had achieved in the previous three years. Washington will begin its seventh NBA season in October. The Mavericks are facing next season with what could be the best frontcourt in the league, led by Anthony Davis, Cooper Flagg, Dereck Lively II, Washington, and Gafford.
