Mavericks Suffer Last-Minute Absence: P.J. Washington Injures Ankle
INGLEWOOD, Calif. – The Dallas Mavericks faced a new adversity in their injury list during the pre-game warm-up. Forward P.J. Washington suffered a sprained right ankle.
Washington’s injury occurred while falling on a basketball, minutes before the start of the game against the Los Angeles Clippers. This resulted in his late exclusion from the starting lineup.
Midway through the first quarter, it was confirmed that Washington would not participate in the game.
The situation is further complicated for Dallas, which was already dealing with the absence of its three main centers.
Anthony Davis, after returning from a month-long absence due to a left calf strain suffered in Friday’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, did not play in the second consecutive game.
Daniel Gafford was also out due to problems with his right ankle, which he has been dealing with since he was injured during the first training of training camp.
Dereck Lively II did not travel with the team and is being evaluated for swelling and discomfort in his right foot, which was operated on.
Washington averages 16.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, both career highs.
