Jay Wright Ruled Out for Coaching the Knicks

Former Villanova coach Jay Wright apparently will not be considered for the New York Knicks head coaching position.

Seth Davis, who works with Wright at CBS Sports, reported that Wright communicated to the Knicks his lack of interest in the position, preferring to remain retired. According to Davis, Wright, close to Knicks president Leon Rose, briefly discussed the job, but was never formally interviewed. Wright, 63, spent more than two decades at Villanova before retiring in 2022 to become an analyst for CBS and TNT. The Knicks maintain strong ties with the university and with Wright; Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart, and Jalen Brunson are former Wildcats players who were coached by Wright.

Josh Hart’s reaction on X about the news

The Knicks fired Tom Thibodeau on Tuesday, a surprising decision after leading the team to its first Eastern Conference final in 25 years.

The Knicks have considered Jason Kidd, coach of the Dallas Mavericks, among other candidates for the head coaching position.
