John Wall Hangs Up His Sneakers After 11 Seasons in the NBA

Point guard John Wall has announced his retirement from the NBA, ending an 11-season career in the league. Wall, 34, developed most of his career with the Washington Wizards, the team that selected him as the first pick in the 2010 draft from Kentucky. The five-time All-Star ends his career with averages of 18.7 points and 8.9 assists per game.

Today, I leave the court, but I don’t walk away from the game. Basketball will always be in my life, and new opportunities arise. I feel that now is the time to confidently enter my next chapter.

In addition to his time with the Wizards, Wall also played for the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers. In his best season, he averaged 23.1 points and 10.7 assists for the Wizards in the 2016-17 season, being named to the All-NBA third team. During his prime, he was one of the fastest and most athletic point guards. He was the slam dunk contest champion in 2014 and also an elite defender, being included in the All-Defensive second team in 2015. Injuries marked the second half of his career. In the last six seasons, he never played more than half the games and did not participate in the last two years.
