Jaden Ivey Returns to the Courts: Excitement and Triumph for the Pistons

Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey made his expected debut this season on Saturday night, marking a significant moment after a long absence due to injuries and surgeries. Ivey, visibly emotional, returned to action after more than ten months off the court. In his first official game since January 1st, Ivey proved his worth by scoring 10 points with 4 of 6 shooting efficiency, in addition to adding two assists and a steal in 15 minutes off the bench. His contribution was key in the Pistons’ victory over the Milwaukee Bucks with a score of 129-116, extending the team’s winning streak to 12 consecutive games.

I simply cherished the moment of being back tonight. Before starting, I was trying to take it all in because it’s been a long time. It took me a while to get used to it, to warm up and get back into the normal routine. But I felt a lot of gratitude for being back.

Ivey’s injury, a fibula fracture in his left leg, kept him out for the rest of last season. In addition, surgery on his right knee on October 16, due to discomfort, further delayed his return.

It’s like seeing him in his natural state. With his jersey on, playing, on the court. It’s like seeing him at home. And today he looked good. I thought he looked very comfortable out there. It doesn’t seem like he’s lost as much time as he has. So it’s a credit to his work and how much time he’s dedicated to it, but we’re all very happy that he’s back.

Cade Cunningham
Ivey’s return coincides with one of the best moments in Pistons history. The 12-game winning streak equals the third-longest in franchise history. Furthermore, Detroit managed to break a 13-game losing streak against Milwaukee. Cade Cunningham highlighted the importance of this victory and the radical change the team has experienced in recent seasons. Two seasons ago, in 2023-24, the Pistons had the worst record in the NBA (14-68). After Saturday’s victory, the team leads the Eastern Conference with a record of 14-2.

The most important thing is that we are still hungry. Not everyone here went through it with us, but those who were here really understand and we still feel that we have a lot to prove. It feels good. As I keep saying, it’s early in the season, so we’re not anywhere. We still have a long way to go and a lot of room for growth.
