Jaren Jackson Jr. and Grizzlies Agree to Multi-Million Dollar Extension

The Memphis Grizzlies and their star, Jaren Jackson Jr., are ready to finalize a five-year, $240 million extension and renegotiation agreement. The contract will include a player option for the 2029-30 season. This new contract will extend Jackson’s stay with the Grizzlies for four additional years to his current agreement, which ends in the 2025-26 season. The agreement was negotiated by Austin Brown and Max Saidman of CAA Basketball, who secured a significant contract to keep a key piece of the franchise in Memphis for the long term. The Jackson extension was a priority for the Grizzlies this offseason. At 25 years old, Jackson has established himself as one of the best players in his position in the NBA, demonstrating his leadership on the team. Jackson has recorded his fourth consecutive season with at least 100 three-pointers made and 100 blocks, the longest streak in NBA history. In addition, he is one of two players who defended point guards, forwards, and centers in at least 900 half-court matchups last season, along with Evan Mobley of Cleveland. During the season, Jackson averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.2 steals in 74 games. Selected with the number 4 pick in the 2018 NBA draft, coming from Michigan State, Jackson has improved his offensive game year after year, excelling in the 2024-25 season by leading the league in floaters (155). Jackson has played his seven seasons in the NBA with the Grizzlies. The transaction will take place during the next movement window, once the Grizzlies free up the necessary salary space, which they can achieve through various means. Memphis has already initiated this process by trading Desmond Bane for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and draft capital earlier this summer, a move that provides flexibility to the Grizzlies. With this agreement, Jackson and Ja Morant, another franchise star, will be under contract until the 2027-28 season. Morant is also eligible for an extension this summer.
