Eric Gordon Explores Free Agency After Rejecting Option with the 76ers

Philadelphia 76ers guard Eric Gordon has decided to decline his $3.4 million player option to explore free agency, according to sources close to the situation.

Although there is still the possibility of Gordon returning to the 76ers, this decision opens a new chapter in his career.

Gordon signed a two-year contract last summer, and if he had exercised his option, the Sixers would have had a $3.4 million impact on their salary cap.

According to the analysis, by opting for free agency and possibly renegotiating a one-year contract, the impact on the salary cap would be reduced to $2.3 million.

At 36 years old, Gordon completed his seventeenth season in the NBA, playing 19.7 minutes per game and averaging 6.8 points, the lowest figure of his career.

Initially, Gordon was hired to add depth to a team with title aspirations. However, injuries affected the 76ers’ performance early in the season, leading Gordon to take on a more significant role, including 13 starts.

Despite this, Gordon proved to be a consistent shooter, with a 40.9% success rate on three-point shots last season.
