Kevin Durant Defines His Preferences for the Future

Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant has defined his preferred destinations in the event of a possible trade, according to sources close to the situation. The teams topping his list are the Miami Heat, the San Antonio Spurs, and the Houston Rockets.

This information has been communicated to various NBA franchises in recent days, making it clear that Durant would be willing to commit long-term to any of these three teams.

Durant, who has a contract expiring in the 2025-26 season worth $54.7 million, has made it clear that the Suns will seek the best possible offer for the franchise.

Rumors about a possible Durant trade have been circulating since the February trade deadline, although the player ultimately remained in Phoenix.

Once his transfer is finalized, Durant can sign a two-year contract extension starting July 6th, with a maximum value of $122 million. If he were to wait six months after the transfer, he could opt for a two-year extension for up to $124 million.

The NBA free agency market will be renewed in the summer of 2026, with an increase in teams with available salary cap space.

At the February trade deadline, Durant was close to being traded to the Golden State Warriors, but ultimately preferred to stay with the Suns. This time, it is expected that the parties will work together to find the best destination for the player.

Durant, who will turn 37 in September, was selected for his fifteenth All-Star Game this season, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 62 games. According to data, the future Hall of Famer has averaged at least 25 points, 50% field goal shooting and 40% on three-pointers for three consecutive seasons, the longest streak in NBA history.

As a shooter, Durant remains prolific, leading the NBA in mid-range shots (53.1%). He also had the best percentage of shots in suspension (50.9%).

The Suns finished the season with a 36-46 record, placing 11th in the Western Conference. This led to organizational changes, including the appointment of Brian Gregory as the new general manager and the hiring of Jordan Ott as a coach.

Durant arrived in Phoenix in February 2023, and his 26.8 points per game as a member of the franchise are the most in Suns history.
