Buss Brothers Expand Their Impact in the World of Sports

Brothers Joey and Jesse Buss, key figures within the Los Angeles Lakers organization, are expanding their horizons in the professional sports arena. Through Buss Sports Capital, a new investment firm, they will seek acquisition and collaboration opportunities in the sports industry globally. Joey Buss, who serves as alternate governor and vice president of research and development for the Lakers, and Jesse Buss, assistant to the team’s general manager, have forged their careers within the franchise, learning from their father, the late Jerry Buss, who acquired the team in 1979. The Buss family has agreed to sell its majority stake in the Lakers to Mark Walter, owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, for a franchise valuation of $10 billion. The NBA’s board of governors is expected to ratify the sale in the coming months. Despite the sale, both brothers will remain with the Lakers. Jeanie Buss, their older sister, will continue as the team’s principal governor.

Our vision is to seek strategic investments and good partners, specifically in the sports field. Buss Sports Capital will not compete with our interests in the Lakers or the NBA. This is our first step towards the future of sports. It’s exciting to see the growth opportunities, especially those where we can add value.

Buss Sports Capital will have the collaboration of CAA Evolution to lead the transaction process and EM Securities as a banking partner. Both brothers have developed their skills in talent acquisition and development within the Lakers. Joey has been president and CEO of the South Bay Lakers, the G League affiliate team, while Jesse has been involved in the player selection process throughout the year as director of scouting.

I hope to work with my brother, Joey, for the next 50 years and I hope this is something that can endure through our children. That’s what our father would have wanted.
