The Chicago Bulls announced that they will hold a ceremony to retire Derrick Rose’s jersey on January 24, 2026. Rose’s number 1 will be raised to the rafters of the United Center after the game against the Boston Celtics.

A Meritorious Honor

Rose’s jersey will become the fifth to be retired by the franchise, joining those of Jerry Sloan (4), Bob Love (10), Michael Jordan (23), and Scottie Pippen (33). Rose, originally from Chicago, retired before the start of the 2024-25 season after a 15-year NBA career. He was selected as number 1 by the Bulls, his hometown team. During his eight seasons in Chicago, he won the Rookie of the Year award in 2009 and was named the youngest Most Valuable Player (MVP) in league history in 2011. In that season, Rose led the Bulls to the best NBA record with 62-20, reaching the Eastern Conference Finals, the furthest stage reached by the franchise since Jordan retired in 1998. In addition to the Bulls, Rose played for the Knicks, Pistons, Timberwolves, Cavs and Grizzlies, participating in 723 games and being selected for three All-Star Games. Last January, the Bulls already paid tribute to Rose after his retirement. The mayor of Chicago proclaimed January 4 as “Derrick Rose Day” in the city, and the team’s president and CEO, Michael Reinsdorf, informed Rose in person that the franchise planned to retire his jersey.
