Derrick Rose will be honored by the Bulls with the retirement of his jersey

The Chicago Bulls announced that they will hold a ceremony to retire Derrick Rose’s jersey on January 24, 2026.

Rose’s number 1 will be raised to the heights of the United Center after the game against the Boston Celtics.

This recognition will make Rose the fifth player in franchise history to have his jersey retired, joining Jerry Sloan (4), Bob Love (10), Michael Jordan (23), and Scottie Pippen (33).

Rose, a native of Chicago, retired before the start of the 2024-25 season, after a 15-year career in the NBA. He was selected as the first overall pick by the Bulls, his hometown team, marking the beginning of a career full of achievements.

During his eight seasons in Chicago, Rose stood out as Rookie of the Year in 2009 and was named the youngest Most Valuable Player (MVP) in league history in 2011.

In the season he won the MVP, Rose led the Bulls to the best NBA record, with 62-20, and took them to the Eastern Conference Finals, the furthest stage reached by the team in playoffs since the Michael Jordan era in 1998.

In addition to his time with the Bulls, Rose played for the Knicks, Pistons, Timberwolves, Cavs and Grizzlies, accumulating 723 games in his career and participating in three All-Star Games.

Last January, the Bulls already paid tribute to Rose after his retirement. The mayor of Chicago declared January 4th as “Derrick Rose Day” in the city, and the team’s president and CEO, Michael Reinsdorf, personally informed Rose of the franchise’s plans to retire his jersey.
