Criminal charges against Ben Gordon dropped

STAMFORD, Conn. – Former NBA guard Ben Gordon has seen multiple criminal charges against him dismissed. The news comes after his arrest in 2023, following authorities reporting erratic behavior at a juice shop in Connecticut. Gordon, who played a crucial role in UConn’s victory in the 2004 NCAA national championship, completed a probation program approved last year by a state judge. As a result, the weapons and threats charges that the basketball player faced will now be removed from his record.

Mental health is really important and the court saw his commitment to doing the right thing in life and that’s why they sealed his record and dismissed all charges.

Darnell Crosland, Ben Gordon’s lawyer
His lawyer, Darnell Crosland, stated that Gordon has been dedicated to improving his mental health since the arrest. Crosland also highlighted the positive influence of the former player in his life, learning to balance daily stresses. Gordon’s arrest occurred at a juice shop in Stamford on the day of his 40th birthday, a few hours after UConn won its fifth NCAA men’s basketball championship. Police reported receiving several 911 calls complaining about Gordon’s aggressive and strange behavior. Upon arrival, officers found that Gordon continued to act erratically, which led to his arrest. Gordon has spoken openly about his bipolar disorder and depression, conditions that, according to him, have influenced several of his arrests over the years. Selected as the third overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls, Gordon played 11 seasons in the league. In his rookie season with the Bulls, he was awarded the NBA Sixth Man award. After five seasons in Chicago, he played for Detroit, Charlotte, and Orlando.
