Jared McCain aims for a return for the season start with the 76ers

Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain has expressed his firm intention to return to action in training camp, following a promising rookie season that was cut short by a meniscus injury. “At this moment, I am on my way,” McCain declared on Tuesday. McCain, 21, showed a strong performance at the beginning of his professional career before suffering the left knee injury during a December game against Indiana.

Although there is no official timeline for his return, McCain has time to integrate into the team’s rotation for the start of the season. The 76ers will participate in the NBA Abu Dhabi Games in the preseason on October 2 and 4, and will begin the regular season on October 22 in Boston.

In the 23 games he played, McCain averaged 15.3 points for a 76ers team that aspired to the NBA championship before injuries relegated them to the draft lottery. The player started in eight matches and quickly became a fan favorite, largely thanks to his success on TikTok, where he amassed almost 5 million followers. In addition, he was awarded as the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month in November. McCain joined the list of key 76ers players, including Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Paul George, who were also out of action for long periods due to injuries. The 76ers had a record of 24-58, including a 5-31 streak at the end of the season. Eager to recover and return to the court, McCain hopes to join the 76ers as soon as he receives full medical clearance.

“I haven’t talked to them yet about whether I’ll be available for everything,” McCain said, “but I’m definitely on my way.”
