White Sox Begin Construction of Academy in Dominican Republic
SANTO DOMINGO – The Chicago White Sox have taken the first step towards building their new baseball academy in the Dominican Republic, marking a milestone with an investment of 12 million dollars. This Tuesday, this project that promises to transform the local sports scene was launched. The academy, which will be in charge of the company JN Academy Design, is expected to be ready in approximately twelve months. This top-tier facility is designed to provide prospects and coaches with an optimal development environment, as well as generate a significant economic and labor impact in the area.The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, highlighted the importance of projects like this, emphasizing their contribution to sports, youth, and the national economy. Junior Noboa, National Baseball Commissioner, thanked President Abinader for the climate of trust that attracts investments and strengthens the country’s development. Noboa emphasized that, in addition to its sporting impact, the academy will boost local economic development and consolidate the Dominican Republic’s leadership as a cradle of great baseball players. Paul Janish, director of minor league development for the Chicago White Sox, thanked the Government for its support, emphasizing the organization’s priority on “elevating excellence in commitment and talent development, while also building strong relationships with community and non-profit organizations to contribute beyond the playing field.” Ramón Candelaria, mayor of Boca Chica, highlighted how the new academy will elevate the sports profile of the municipality and generate opportunities for young athletes, fostering the integral development of the community. With a long history in the country, the Chicago White Sox have previously operated in Moca, Hato Mayor and Baseball City. This new academy represents an important step, reaffirming their commitment to Dominican baseball and social development. Present at the event were Deputy Minister Franklin de la Mota; Mayor Leocadia Núñez (Doña Nellys); the director of the MLB office in the country, Nelson Tejada; Lowis Silverio, Katie Savarise, Jared Mcmahon, Geoff Head, David Keller, and Welington Morrobel, from the White Sox organization.
