Tragedy in Baseball: Young Prospect Gustavo Talmar Passes Away
Santo Domingo – The National Police is investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of young baseball prospect Gustavo Talmaré, only 14 years old. The teenager’s body was found Friday night in a lagoon located in the El Toro de Guerra area, behind a sports training academy. According to a preliminary report from the Santo Domingo Este Regional Directorate, the cause of death was asphyxiation by immersion (drowning), presumably after the young man fell into the lagoon while looking for fruit. However, the authorities have not yet definitively confirmed this version. The Homicide Investigation Department has taken the lead on the case, gathering testimonies and evidence to clarify how and why Gustavo Talmaré arrived at the scene of the tragedy. According to the Amaury Nina Academy, where Talmaré was training as a baseball player, the young man had participated in a practice game on Friday afternoon and, as usual, was released along with his teammates at the end of the day. The academy reported that, subsequently, they learned that some players moved to the area where the incident occurred, about 40 minutes from the complex, without the authorization of the coaches or adult supervision. The National Police announced this Saturday that the case is under investigation and requested caution while the facts are clarified. Although the hypothesis of an accidental fall into the lagoon has been considered, no possibility is ruled out.“We do not have exact details of what Gustavo was doing in that place. The authorities are conducting the corresponding investigations, and as an academy we are collaborating in everything necessary,” said Amaury Nina, director of the academy.
