Santo Domingo.
Amidst the pain and despair, the mother of Nelffisis Calwany Sánchez Brea, wife of former Major League player Tony Blanco, expressed her sorrow during the mass in honor of the victims of the Jet Set nightclub tragedy. In this fateful event, her daughter and son-in-law, parents of a four-month-old child, lost their lives.
Heartbroken, Nelffisis’s mother recounted the moments experienced the night of the collapse. Her daughter was celebrating her birthday when the tragedy occurred. Minutes before, Nelffisis had taken her grandson and promised to pick him up the next day.
With tears and words of deep sorrow, the mother dedicated emotional words to a photograph of her daughter and son-in-law, located at the scene of the tragedy.
This Thursday, May 8, marks one month since the tragedy that shocked the Dominican Republic: the collapse of the Jet Set nightclub, which left a balance of 233 dead and more than 180 injured. An event that still remains in the collective memory of the country.
