Teóscar Hernández to the Injured List: Dodgers Lose Their Star Hitter

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed Dominican outfielder Teóscar Hernández on the 10-day injured list. The news, confirmed by team manager Dave Roberts, is due to a first-degree strain in the adductor of the left groin.

Hernández, who had to leave Monday’s game against the Marlins due to discomfort during a defensive play, will be undergoing treatment, with no exact time specified for his return.

Obviously he’s going to be out for a while. Everything will depend on how he responds when he starts training again.

Before the injury, Hernández was having an outstanding offensive season. His batting average was .315, with an OPS of .933 and 34 RBIs, leading the Major Leagues in this last category at the time of his departure.

As part of the team’s moves, the Dodgers also designated Venezuelan pitcher Yoendrys Gómez for assignment and called up outfielder James Outman and right-hander J.P. Feyereisen from the minor leagues.

Teóscar, 31, has been one of the most consistent hitters for the Dodgers in this first part of the season, and his absence represents a sensitive blow to the Los Angeles offense. A fixed starting replacement in right field during his absence has not yet been announced.
