Juan Soto progresses in his recovery and nears return with the Mets
Dominican outfielder Juan Soto has taken a significant step in his recovery process by starting a running program. This progress brings him closer to rejoining the New York Mets after suffering a right calf injury.
The news was confirmed by the team owner, Steve Cohen, after the 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, a result that prolonged the losing streak of the New York team.
Soto, who was injured on April 3 in San Francisco, had already been participating in baseball-related activities, including indoor batting practice. The start of the running program marks crucial progress in his rehabilitation, as his return will depend on the complete recovery of his speed.
Although an exact date for his return has not yet been defined, it is estimated that he could rejoin within two to three weeks. Leader Carlos Mendoza mentioned that alternative methods for his preparation are not ruled out, such as facing minor league pitchers in simulated sessions at Citi Field.
The possible return of Soto would represent a significant boost for a Mets team that has experienced offensive difficulties in his absence, scoring two runs or less in five of their last six games.
Before his injury, the Dominican player stood out as one of the team’s most productive hitters, with a .355 average, a .412 on-base percentage, and a .516 slugging percentage, as well as a home run and two doubles in eight games.
Soto’s evolution will be fundamental to the Mets’ aspirations of improving their performance and regaining momentum in the season.
