United States. The suspension of Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler of the Los Angeles Angels has been reduced from seven to four games. The decision went into effect this Wednesday, marking the beginning of the player’s sanction compliance.
Soler will be out of action until Sunday, coinciding with the end of the Angels’ series against the San Diego Padres.
The suspension originated following an incident that occurred on April 7th during a game against the Atlanta Braves at Angel Stadium. In that game, a fight broke out involving several players from both teams.
The conflict was triggered after Soler hit a home run in his first at-bat against Dominican pitcher Reynaldo López. Subsequently, he was hit by a pitch.
Tension escalated after a high pitch in the fifth inning, leading to a verbal exchange. This exchange preceded Soler’s reaction, who went to the mound, initiating a physical confrontation.
Both players exchanged blows, which led to the benches emptying and a brawl on the field. Both Soler and López were ejected from the match.
López also saw his suspension reduced, going from an initial suspension to five games, after reaching an agreement with MLB.
I asked him if everything was okay and I didn’t like the answer he gave me.
After the match, Soler explained that his reaction was motivated by a comment he didn’t like from the pitcher.
The incident highlighted the rivalry that had arisen on the field and marked a tense chapter between the two, who were briefly teammates in the 2024 season with the Bravos.
