Serbia Crushes Dominican Republic in the U-19 Women’s Volleyball World Championship
Belgrade, Serbia. The Serbian women’s national team demonstrated their power this Thursday by defeating the Dominican Republic in the U-19 Women’s World Volleyball Championship. The match, which was decided in straight sets (25-13, 25-17 and 25-20), made the Serbian dominance on the court clear. This match, corresponding to Group B, represented the second consecutive defeat for the Caribbean team, which now has a record of 0-2 in the tournament. The next challenge for the Dominican team will be this Friday against Chinese Taipei, at 9:15 a.m., Dominican time. Anja Miovcic led the Serbian attack with 12 points, while Marija Babalj and Zorich contributed 10 points each. This victory marked the first triumph for Serbia in the championship.On behalf of the Dominican Republic, Estel Santos was the most outstanding player with 8 points, followed by Julie Arias with 5. However, the Dominican offense faced difficulties in maintaining a consistent pace, being surpassed in several key aspects of the game.
General statistics revealed Serbia’s superiority in attacks (39-20) and blocks (6-1). Furthermore, the Serbian team capitalized on the defensive failures and reception problems of the Dominican team, especially in the back court. In the first set, Serbia set the pace from the start, limiting the Dominican Republic to only 13 points. Although the second set showed a slight improvement by the Caribbean team, it was not enough to stop the Serbian offense. The third set was more contested, but Serbia maintained control and secured the victory. The Dominican technical team will now seek to reorganize the team to achieve its first victory in the tournament against Chinese Taipei and keep alive the hopes of advancing to the next phase of the youth world championship.
