Phillies Come Back and Beat Giants with Crawford’s Golden Hit
Philadelphia secured an exciting 3-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader, thanks to a decisive hit by rookie Justin Crawford in the ninth inning.
With two outs and the score tied, Crawford hit a single that drove in Bryson Stott from third base, securing the victory for the Phillies. This was the second walk-off hit in the young prospect’s career.
The decisive episode began with an infield hit by Adolis García. Stott tied the game with a triple, setting the stage for Crawford’s feat.
The Phillies took the lead early with a home run by Kyle Schwarber in the first inning. This was Schwarber’s 350th career home run, a hit that traveled 406 feet and came off the bat at 113 miles per hour, marking his tenth of the season.
Schwarber continues to demonstrate his offensive power, projecting a season with nearly 50 home runs.
In the mound, Dominican pitcher Cristopher Sánchez allowed two runs in the first inning, but then recovered, completing 6.2 innings. Sánchez allowed four hits, gave three walks and struck out seven batters.
With this victory, the Phillies add their second under the interim direction of Don Mattingly.
