Santiago Metro Crushes Santo Domingo Lions with Three-Point Festival
In a vibrant match of the National Basketball League (LNB), the Metros de Santiago, already qualified for the next phase, demonstrated their offensive power by decisively defeating the Leones de Santo Domingo with a score of 122-94. The match, held at the Arena Oscar Gobaira, was a display of skill and precision by the Santiago team.
With this triumph, the Metros reach an 11-2 record, sharing the lead of the standings with the Gigantes Basketball Club. In addition, they maintain their undefeated home record with an impressive 6-0 and complete the sweep of the series against the Leones, whom they also defeated on April 21st.
The key to the Metros’ success was their exceptional performance in three-point shots, making 17 of 35 attempts, which translates to 49% effectiveness. Likewise, they achieved 56% accuracy in field goals and demonstrated exemplary team play with 32 assists. The defense was also key, forcing 15 turnovers from the Leones.
Brahiam Méndez led the offense with 18 points, followed by Anthony Fairley with 16. Raimer Santana contributed 15 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds, while Jordan Hall also scored 15 points and dished out 6 assists. Tony Cracknell and Oliver García added 12 points each, and Adris De León achieved 11 points, 10 assists and 3 steals, on a special day marked by the birth of his daughter Abril. Florent Thamba contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds.
For the Leones, Gerardo Suero stood out with 16 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds. Romaine Thomas and José Liriano scored 15 points each, while Brayan Saviñón and Reggie Quezada contributed 14 points each. Kerry Richardson also contributed with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The first quarter was dominated by the Metros, who, fueled by 8 three-pointers in 12 attempts, achieved a 42-22 lead. Fairley shone with 12 points and a perfect 6 of 6 in field goals, while Hall added 9 points and Cracknell 7. Suero led the Lions with 8 points.
In the second quarter, the Metros continued their attack, increasing the difference in the score. With a three-pointer by Raimer Santana, the game became 62-32. At the end of the first half, the Metros maintained a lead of 66-45.
Hall and Fairley each scored 12 points in the first 20 minutes of the game for the Metros, who achieved 60% three-point shooting accuracy (12 of 20). Santana added 11 points and Méndez 8. Richardson scored 12 points and Suero 10 for the Leones.
The situation did not improve for the Lions in the third quarter. The Metros’ defense and their field efficiency, with 60% accuracy, allowed them to maintain a 95-76 lead after three periods.
In the final quarter, the Metros maintained their dominance and managed to pull ahead by 32 points (114-82). The Santiago team set their best scoring record of the season, surpassing the 101 points achieved on April 16th and 23rd.
