Salvador Pérez Reaches Historic Milestone with 300 Home Runs and 1,000 RBIs
In a memorable night for the Kansas City Royals, Salvador Pérez etched his name in golden letters in Major League history. The Venezuelan catcher became the eighth catcher in MLB history to hit 300 home runs and accumulate 1,000 RBIs. The feat was accomplished at Citizens Bank Park, during the match between the Royals and the Philadelphia Phillies. Pérez, with a forceful swing in the third inning, sent the ball to the stands in the center-left field, achieving his home run number 300 and the RBI number 1,000 of his career. The Royals’ captain didn’t stop there. Previously, in the first inning, he had hit a two-run homer against starting pitcher Taijuan Walker, adding his second home run of the night and the 27th of the season. This achievement places Pérez in a select group of baseball legends, sharing space with figures like Mike Piazza, Johnny Bench, Carlton Fisk, Yogi Berra, Gary Carter, Iván Rodríguez, and Lance Parrish, all of whom are catchers with at least 300 home runs to their name.
Additionally, Pérez becomes the thirteenth active player to reach 300 home runs and the tenth with 1,000 RBIs, being the third to achieve it in 2025, following in the footsteps of Bryce Harper and Mike Trout. In the history of the Royals, only George Brett (317 HR, 1,596 RBI) and Hal McRae (1,012 RBI) surpass the historical records that Pérez now threatens. The 34-year-old catcher is already the second-highest RBI producer for the Royals and is only 17 home runs away from surpassing Brett’s mark as the all-time home run leader. With more than a decade wearing the Kansas City jersey, Salvador Pérez not only solidifies his position as the face of the organization, but also reinforces his path towards a possible place in the Cooperstown Hall of Fame.
