Salcedo FC Makes History: LDF Champion 2025-2026
Santiago – Salcedo FC was crowned champion of the 2025-2026 season of the Dominican Republic Football League (LDF), after an exciting match against Cibao FC. The final aggregate score was 3-2 in favor of Salcedo, in a match played at the PUCMM stadium in Santiago.
In their first season as a professional club, Salcedo FC proved their worth by overcoming one of the strongest teams in Dominican football, securing their first national title.
Cibao FC, seeking to come back from the 2-0 suffered in the first leg, took the initiative from the start of the game. However, they encountered the solid defense of goalkeeper Odalis Báez, who kept the score at zero during the first half.
In the second half, Javier Roces scored for Cibao FC in the 76th minute, followed by a goal by Rivaldo Correa in the 88th minute, tying the overall series. Cibao FC’s fans were celebrating the possible comeback.
But, in an unexpected turn, Daniel Flores, hero of the semifinals, scored the decisive goal for Salcedo FC, sealing the victory with a global score of 3-2.
Despite the eight minutes of added time by referee Randy Encarnación, Salcedo FC managed to maintain their lead until the final whistle, securing a historic victory.
With this championship, Salcedo FC qualifies for the Concacaf Caribbean Cup 2026. Cibao FC already had their spot secured after winning the LDF Cup 2025, while Atlético Pantoja will play the CFU Caribbean Shield 2026 as the winner of the regular season.
The halftime show featured the performance of the typical merengue artist El Prodigio, cheering the fans present.
