The MLB player market continues to move, and the name of Ketel Marte, second baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks, resonates strongly.
Growing Interest in Ketel Marte
Following confirmation from Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen that he is open to offers for the Dominican star, interest in the player has been increasing.
According to sources close to the market, several teams have shown strong interest in acquiring the 32-year-old player. Among the interested teams are the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays, and possibly the Philadelphia Phillies.
In addition, the Cincinnati Reds are also evaluating the possibility of making a move for the veteran infielder.
A Featured Player
Mars comes from a standout season in 2025, where he demonstrated his worth with 28 home runs, an OPS of .893, and a WAR of 4.6 in 126 games. Since 2023, his performance places him among the top 15 players in MLB in both WAR (15.3) and wRC+ (140). In addition, he has been recognized with a Silver Slugger Award and has been selected for the All-Star Game in the last two seasons.
Attractive contract
A key factor in the demand for Marte is his contract. The player will receive US$91 million for the next five seasons, with a player option of US$11.5 million after 2030. This contractual situation, combined with his productivity, makes Arizona expect a considerable return in any negotiation.
Another name on the radar: Brandon Lowe
In addition to Marte, Brandon Lowe, the Rays’ second baseman, also generates interest in the trade market. The possibility of Tampa Bay trading him has increased during the Winter Meetings.
The Rays recently exercised the club option for US$11.5 million for 2026, and Lowe will be a free agent at the end of that campaign. Cincinnati is among the interested teams, and the Pittsburgh Pirates have also held talks with the Rays regarding a possible deal.
With several teams looking to reinforce the middle infield and with high-level options like Marte and Lowe available, this winter is shaping up to be a period of great activity for the position.
